Nursing Home Abuse: Choking

Choking

Many residents in nursing homes or assisted living facilities are prescribed special diets for their health and well-being.  The intention of these special diets are to meet each individual’s nutritional needs and protect the resident from consuming food that could be harmful to his/her health.

Maintaining the diets put into place by physicians are the responsibility of the care facility.  When these diet plans and restrictions are not followed, it could result in choking and in some cases, wrongful death.  A long-term care facility and staff that does not follow doctor ordered dietary plans or restrictions, could be deemed legally negligent.
